Gaye Chan - A Dot and a Line (2003)

There once were two roads with two men traveling on them. The first road was in texas, a place once called mexico and before that the home of the coahuiltrcan. On this road a ‘brown’ ‘mexican’ man moved north as the US border moved south. On this road he is pulled over for drinking and driving. He has no papers to prove he should be on this road. He was arrested, shackled, thrown into a detention center. He was deported to the place now called mexico, separated from his family who live in the place now called the united states.

The second road is in a place now called maine, once called wabanaki. On this road a ‘white’ ‘american’ man was pulled over for drinking and driving. He had a US driver’s license and was fined $150. This man moved south, as did the US border, to texas. With his papers and his family’s money, he purchased land and titled. With his papers he made his fortune. With his papers George W. Bush was the president of the place now called the united states, reunited with his family in the place now called washington dc, once called accomack.
